the heart of a poet

" . . . seek those which your own everyday life offers you; describe your sorrows and desires, passing thoughts, and the belief in some sort of beauty-- describe all these with a loving, quiet, humble sincerity. . ."

This is the obligatory introduction post. Enjoy.

I'm the penniless poetess. Or drama-princess. Or Blythe. Or Camie. Or Amy K. Whichever you prefer is fine by me.

I'm a high school senior and an amateur writer. I've had one poem published, which was my pride and joy. My goal is to become an English teacher and a full-fledged writer.

I write because I have to. There are so many stories and poems inside of me that if I don't let them come out on paper, I think I'd go insane. Writing is my outlet, my sanctuary, my hobby, my hope. . . I'm sure it sounds cliched, but writing is pretty much my life.

Of course, that doesn't mean it's good. I've written plenty of trash in my life, and I'm sure I'll come up with more of it. For the most part, the only writing I will ever post online is my fanfiction. And fanfic is really more of a hobby than anything else. It's also how I get to know a lot of people online. I write fics for L.M. Montgomery and Moulin Rouge, which is, I suppose, a rather peculiar combination. I enjoy it quite a bit, and other people seem to. I have to good sense not to inflict my non-fic works on anyone online.

Aside from penning my "masterpieces," I have a few other things I like to do. I love theatre-- I've been in several plays, have written two, and am currently directing one. I love music, especially Broadway showtunes, classical music, and opera. I like to dance to silly pop music, because, as much as I adore Madama Butterfly, just try and do a jazz dance to it. It doesn't work. I enjoy studying art history and philosophy, and I'm a voracious reader. Some of my favorite authors include L.M. Montgomery, Louisa May Alcott, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Terry Brooks, J.R.R. Tolkein, C.S. Lewis, Orson Scott Card, Helen Fielding, Virginia Euewer Wolff, Timothy Zahn, Nathaniel Hawthorne, William Shakespeare. . I'm a big fan of classic novels and fantasy/sci-fi, which is another odd mix. I'm sort of a contradiction in terms, but I enjoy it.

Some of my favorite movies include the Star Wars series, Moulin Rouge, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Indiana Jones part 1 & 3, Finding Forrestor, Shadowlands, Ever After, Emma, Bridget Jones's Diary, Dead Poet's Society, When Harry Met Sally, Muppets Take Manhatten, and Anne of Green Gables and sequel.

My vices include chocolate, fanfiction, acting silly, nail polish, daydreaming, online personality tests, and laziness. Oh, and I can be an intellectual snob. Do me justice, though. . . a lot of the time my so-called intimidating smartness is hiding an insecurity. I'm just your average seventeen year old in that area.

I'm a liberal Christian and a Democrat. I also consider myself an environmentalist and a feminist. To quote Moulin Rouge, I believe in truth, beauty, freedom, and above all things, love. I suppose I'm a starry-eyed idealist, but really, the world needs some of us in these days.

Someday I want to tour Europe, visit Australia, and drop by Japan. I'm studying Japanese, but I'm not very advanced in the language yet.

Enjoy my blogger!
